Cubesats on the way

Cubesats on the way

The first signals from space came from the Soviet Sputnik spacecraft 60 years ago. Today, there are significantly more signals and the number of satellites is increasing rapidly. Small satellites, especially the cubesats produced according to a tree pattern, are increasingly conquering space. The appropriate low budget ground stations to locate these backpack satellites and receive data are built by the engineer Andreas Hornig of aerospaceresearch.net in Stuttgart. He relies on open source and offers services around the tracking of cubesats. He was honored for this business idea yesterday at the regional awards ceremony of the European Satellite Navigation Competition 2017 at the Print Media Academy in Heidelberg: The prize was 1,000 E cash, rent-free office at Technologiepartk Tübingen-Reutlingen (TTR), and a crowdfunding advice. Internationally, he achieved fifth place out of 321 participants.
